Ashley Ama Nyanteh is a remarkable entrepreneur and advocate for sustainable development. During her time at the Methodist Girls High School, Ashley, along with her fellow students, embarked on an extraordinary project that would garner international recognition. Their innovative solution involved converting bamboo into a water fountain, designed to address various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This inventive creation not only provided a soothing sound but also had numerous health benefits.
The bamboo water fountain served multiple purposes. It acted as a source of moisture in the air, ensuring a comfortable environment. Additionally, the fountain produced negative ions, effectively neutralising the harmful effects of positive ions on human health. By focusing on these aspects, the students’ invention directly aligned with ten sustainable SDGs, further emphasising their commitment to creating a better future.
The outstanding efforts and achievements of Ashley and her team did not go unnoticed. Their exceptional solution earned them the distinction of being awarded fifth place among 30 countries, including 15 from Africa, in a prestigious competition held in South Africa. The recognition received for their remarkable contributions in line with the SDGs not only showcased their ingenuity but also highlighted their dedication to finding sustainable and impactful solutions to pressing global challenges.
